Since 25 October 2025 the historic US$41 exemption is gone: every online purchase from abroad pays the 19% VAT, whatever its value. The good counterpart: purchases up to US$500 by private individuals became exempt from customs duty, so your tax cost is a clean, predictable 19%.
Because they are registered with the SII: the law makes them collect the 19% VAT at the point of sale for shipments up to US$500. If you paid it at checkout, the parcel enters with no further charges. If the store is not registered, the courier collects it on import. Either way you pay once.
On occasional purchases up to US$500, no: only the 19% VAT. Above US$500 the general regime applies (6% duty + VAT), where the EU-Chile agreement allows 0% duty with European proof of origin on the invoice. Ask us for it if you go over the threshold.
