Prohibited Items: There are certain items that cannot be shipped to the Dominican Republic under any circumstances. These include:
Hazardous Materials: Explosives, flammables, poisons, dangerous chemicals.
Illegal Drugs and Controlled Substances: Includes narcotics, marijuana and derivatives, as well as medications without an authorized prescription.
Weapons and Ammunition: Including replicas, military knives and firearm parts.
Pornographic Material: Any content considered obscene or pornographic.
Protected Fauna and Flora: Live animals, plants, seeds and species in danger of extinction without official permits from the Ministry of the Environment and/or CITES.
Restricted Items: These items can be shipped to the Dominican Republic, but require special permits or must comply with certain regulations:
Medicines: Require a medical prescription and, in some cases, an import permit issued by the Ministry of Public Health (MSP).
Food and Beverages: Are subject to health inspection; meats, dairy products and fresh products have greater restrictions.
Cosmetics and Hygiene Products: They must comply with local health regulations.
Cultural Materials: Old books, art, historical or archaeological documents require special authorization from the General Directorate of Customs (DGA).
Declaration of Content and Value
Accurate Description: The sender must detail the items in the package, including quantities, brand and type of product.
Declared Value: The actual value of the merchandise must be declared. Declaring a lower value may result in fines and withholding, while declaring a higher value may increase taxes and duties. You decide the declared value of your goods.

Package Review: All packages entering the Dominican Republic are reviewed by the General Directorate of Customs (DGA)to ensure compliance with local import regulations.
Tariffs and Taxes:
Your purchases of up to 200 USD enter free of tariffs and ITBIS (only a symbolic fee of 0.25 USD per kilo), regardless of their origin.
For higher values, a tariff will be applied depending on the category of the product and the value of the package.
Above this, the ITBIS of 18% is applied to the total value. At MDE we prepare the documentation and the quote shows you the real cost before buying.
Packages from the European Union and other countries: Although the Dominican Republic maintains trade agreements with the European Union and the United States (DR-CAFTA), packages from the EU are subject to the same procedures as any other international shipment. Depending on the product, these agreements can reduce certain tariffs, but the ITBIS is always applied to the total declared value.
Payment of Duties: The recipient is responsible for paying the corresponding duties and taxes. Payment can be managed through the carrier (courier) or directly with the DGA before the release of the package.
