Frequently asked questions about shipping to Poland

What items cannot be shipped to Poland?

You cannot send items prohibited by Polish law or by the regulations of the European Union. This includes illegal drugs, explosives, flammable or toxic materials, weapons and ammunition (including replicas), pornographic materials, cash, counterfeit products and animals or plants protected without permits from the Ministry of Climate and Environment or CITES.

Do I need to declare the contents and value of the package?

Yes. Every shipment entering Poland must include an accurate description of the contents (product type, quantity, make and model) and its actual value. Declaring a lower or inaccurate value may result in fines, withholdings or sanctions from the Krajowa Administracja Skarbowa (KAS).

What happens if my package contains restricted items?

If the package contains restricted items, Polish customs may request additional permits before release. For example, foods, cosmetics, supplements or medications require authorizations from the Ministry of Health, PIS, or URPL. If the required documentation is not delivered, the package may be detained or returned to the country of origin.

What additional costs can I expect when sending a package to Poland?

In addition to the shipping cost, import duties and Polish VAT (23%) may apply, calculated on the total value of the merchandise (product + transportation + insurance). If the value of the package is less than 150 euros, it will be exempt from tariffs, but not from VAT.

Packages sent from countries within the European Union are not subject to tariffs or import taxes, as they circulate within the European single market; They can only generate minimal administrative costs for the courier or the Poczta Polska postal service.

On the contrary, shipments from outside the European Union (for example, the United States, the United Kingdom, China or Switzerland) are subject to customs inspection and the payment of VAT and, in some cases, tariffs depending on the category of the product. In addition, additional administrative fees may apply for the management of the office or the submission of documents to the Krajowa Administracja Skarbowa (KAS).

How long does it take for a package to arrive in Poland?

The average delivery time is 7 to 15 business days, depending on the country of origin, the type of transportation and the courier used. Shipments from outside the European Union may take longer due to the customs review process.

What should I do if my package is detained at customs?

If your package is detained, the Krajowa Administracja Skarbowa (KAS) or the courier will notify you. You must present the commercial invoice, identification document and, if applicable, the required permits or certificates. Once the process is completed and the corresponding taxes have been paid, the package will be released for delivery.

How can I track my package?

You can track your shipment at any time using the international carrier's tracking number. When the package arrives in Poland, you can continue tracking it through the Poczta Polska system or from your control panel in MDE.

What documents do I need to send a package to Poland?

You must include a commercial invoice or proof of purchase, a declaration of content and value, and, in some cases, health certificates or permits issued by the competent authorities (PIS, URPL, UKE or Ministry of Climate and Environment), depending on the type of product.

Can I send gifts to Poland and how should I declare them?

Yes. Gifts may be shipped by stating “gift” on the invoice and indicating their estimated actual value. Even if they are gifts, if their value exceeds 45 euros, they may be subject to payment of VAT or customs review.

How to handle customs procedures in Poland?

Customs procedures are managed by the Krajowa Administracja Skarbowa (KAS). The recipient must present the required documentation, pay taxes and comply with the corresponding health or technical controls. Once the process is completed, the package is released and delivered by Poczta Polska or by the assigned private courier.

Does the new €3 EU tariff affect me when shipping to Poland?

Yes, when the shipment comes from outside the European Union (for example the United States, China or the United Kingdom) and its value is equal to or less than €150. From July 1, 2026, Regulation (EU) 2026/382 replaces the former tariff exemption for low-value shipments with a fixed tariff of €3 for each type of product (tariff heading), not per package. It is a transitional measure until July 1, 2028. Your purchases within the EU destined for Poland do not pay this tariff. At MDE we prepare the customs documentation and the quote shows you the real cost before shipping, without surprises.
