Prohibited Items:
There are certain items that cannot be shipped to The Netherlands (Holland) under any circumstances. These include:
Hazardous Materials: Explosives, flammables, poisons and dangerous chemicals.
Illegal Drugs and Controlled Substances: Includes narcotics, marijuana and derivatives, as well as medications without a medical prescription or without authorization from the Inspectie Gezondheidszorg en Jeugd (IGJ) and the Autoriteit Diergeneesmiddelen (SDa). Although the Netherlands is known for its tolerant policies, international shipping of cannabis and its derivatives is not permitted.
Weapons and Ammunition: Including replicas, military knives, compressed air weapons, firearm parts and personal defense devices without a permit.
Pornographic Material: Any content considered obscene or pornographic under Dutch or European Union law.
Protected Fauna and Flora: Live animals, plants, seeds and endangered species without permits from the Nederlandse Voedsel- en Warenautoriteit (NVWA) and/or CITES.
Restricted Items:
These items can be shipped to The Netherlands, but require special permits or must comply with certain regulations:
Medicines: Requires a valid medical prescription and, in some cases, import authorization issued by the IGJ (Health and Youth Inspectorate).
Food and Beverages: Are subject to sanitary and phytosanitary inspection by the NVWA. Animal products, meats, dairy and fresh foods have stricter restrictions.
Cosmetics and Hygiene Products: They must comply with the health standards of Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 of the European Union and local labeling and ingredient regulations supervised by the NVWA.
Cultural Materials: Old books, works of art, historical or archaeological documents require authorization from the Dienst Cultuurgoederen en Restituties (DCR) of the Ministerie van Onderwijs, Cultuur en Wetenschap (OCW).
Declaration of Content and Value
Accurate Description: The sender must detail the items in the package, including quantities, brand and type of product.
Declared Value: The actual value of the merchandise must be declared. Declaring a lower value may result in fines or withholding by the Belastingdienst – Douane (Netherlands Customs Authority), while declaring a higher value may increase customs taxes or duties. You decide the declared value of your goods.
Don't be afraid, our team of experts is here to assist you at all times.

Package Review: All packages entering the Netherlands are reviewed by the Belastingdienst – Douane (Netherlands Customs Authority) to ensure compliance with national and European Union regulations on import, security and tax control.
Tariffs and Taxes: Parcels with a declared value of less than 150 euros (EU “de minimis” limit) are exempt from import duties, but not from VAT.
All shipments from outside the European Union are subject to Dutch VAT (BTW), which is 21% for most products, although there are reduced rates of 9% for food, books and pharmaceutical products.
For shipments with a value greater than 150 euros, import tariffs will also apply, calculated according to the TARIC tariff classification of the product and the declared value.
Packages from the European Union and other countries: Shipping from countries within the European Union (such as Germany, France, Spain or Italy) are not subject to tariffs or import taxes, since The Netherlands is part of the single European market.
On the other hand, packages from non-EU countries (such as the United Kingdom, United States, China or Switzerland) are subject to the payment of VAT (BTW) and, in some cases, import tariffs, depending on the type of product and its origin.
The Netherlands does not apply the DR-CAFTA agreement; It is governed by the trade agreements of the European Union, which may reduce or eliminate tariffs on certain categories of goods.
Payment of Duties: The recipient in The Netherlands is responsible for paying the applicable taxes and duties before the package is released. This payment can be made directly through the international courier (DHL, UPS, FedEx, PostNL) or through the electronic system of the Belastingdienst – Douane.
Additional Documentation:
Some products require special permits or certifications:
Food and beverages: Health certificates issued or validated by the Nederlandse Voedsel- en Warenautoriteit (NVWA).
Medicines and cosmetics: Registration or health authorization from the Inspectie Gezondheidszorg en Jeugd (IGJ).
Electronic devices and telecommunications: CE certification and, if applicable, compliance with the standards of the Agentschap Telecom (AT).
Fauna and flora: Permits from NVWA and/or CITES.
Release Procedures: Once the fees are paid and the required documentation is presented, the Douane will release the package and it will be delivered to the recipient via PostNL or the corresponding international courier.
Package Tracking:
You can track your shipment at any time using the tracking number provided by the international carrier, or through the PostNL system, or from your control panel in My European Address, once the package enters the Dutch customs system.
Possible Delays: If the package requires additional documentation, health inspection or contains restricted items, customs procedures may cause delays in delivery. This is more common in shipments coming from countries outside the European Union or during periods of high customs activity.
We help complete all your customs documentation to avoid possible inconveniences!

Our priority is that you feel safe and accompanied at all times!

Items prohibited by Dutch law or European Union regulations cannot be shipped. This includes illegal drugs or controlled substances, explosives, flammable or toxic materials, weapons and ammunition (including replicas), pornographic materials, cash, counterfeit products, and animals or plants protected without the permits of the Nederlandse Voedsel- en Warenautoriteit (NVWA) or CITES.
Yes. All shipments to The Netherlands must include a detailed and accurate description of the content (type of product, quantity, brand and model) and its actual value. Declaring an incorrect or lower value may result in fines, withholdings or sanctions from the Belastingdienst – Douane (Netherlands Customs Authority).
If your package contains restricted items, Dutch customs may request additional certificates or permits before releasing it. For example, medicines and cosmetics must be authorized by the Inspectie Gezondheidszorg en Jeugd (IGJ), and food or drinks must meet the standards of the NVWA. If the necessary documentation is not delivered, the package may be detained or returned to the country of origin.
In addition to the shipping cost, import duties and Dutch VAT (BTW) may apply, which is 21%for most products. Some goods, such as food, books or medicines, have reduced rates of 9%.
If the value of the package is less than 150 euros, it is exempt from tariffs, but not VAT.
Shipping from countries within the European Union does not pay import taxes or tariffs, since the Netherlands belongs to the single market European.
On the other hand, shipments from outside the European Union (for example, the United Kingdom, the United States, China or Switzerland) are subject to the payment of VAT and possible tariffs, depending on the type of product. Administrative fees of the courier or the postal service PostNL may also apply for customs management.
The average delivery time is 5 to 12 business days, depending on the country of origin and the transportation service used. Shipments from outside the European Union may take longer due to customs controls.
If your package is detained, the Belastingdienst – Douane or the courier will notify you. You must present the commercial invoice, proof of payment and, if applicable, the required permits or certificates. Once the process is completed and the taxes paid, the package will be released for delivery.
You can track your shipment using the tracking number provided by the international courier (DHL, FedEx, UPS, etc.). When the package enters the Netherlands, you can continue tracking it through the PostNL system or directly from your control panel in MDE.
You must include a commercial invoice or proof of purchase, a declaration of content and value, and, in some cases, health certificates or special permits issued by the relevant authorities (NVWA, IGJ, Agentschap Telecom or CITES).
Yes. Gifts may be shipped as long as they are declared as a “gift” and indicate their actual estimated value. Personal gifts are tax exempt if their value does not exceed 45 euros. If the value is greater or comes from outside the European Union, VAT (21%) and, in some cases, tariffs will be applied.
Customs procedures are managed by the Belastingdienst – Douane. The recipient must pay the corresponding taxes, present the required documentation and comply with applicable health, telecommunications or environmental regulations. Once the process is completed, the package is released and delivered to the recipient by PostNL or the assigned courier.
Yes, when the shipment comes from outside the European Union (for example the United States, China or the United Kingdom) and its value is equal to or less than €150. From July 1, 2026, Regulation (EU) 2026/382 replaces the former tariff exemption for low-value shipments with a fixed tariff of €3 for each type of product (tariff heading), not per package. It is a transitional measure until July 1, 2028. Your purchases within the EU destined for the Netherlands do not pay this tariff. At MDE we prepare the customs documentation and the quote shows you the real cost before shipping, without surprises.

I am very satisfied.Publicado en Google Gustavo SanchezTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have received one package so far, my first package, and the service has been phenomenal. My package took exactly one week to reach its literal destination, having used the traditional Spanish and Mexican postal services in their premium version. Very good service and experience with My European Address. The platform is easy and friendly to navigate in general, although sometimes finding the messages or opening them was confusing, but other than that, the rest was very intuitive. Super satisfied with the service. Thank you.Publicado en Google Arlette GonzálezTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
