Tariffs and Taxes:
Shipping to Guatemala does not have a broad “de minimis” as in other countries. Currently, travelers and resident recipients can receive packages up to 30 kg with a maximum allowed value in quetzales (GTQ)before taxes are applied.
For higher values or shipments that exceed the allowed weight, import duties apply depending on the type of product and the declared value.
Taxes are calculated in quetzales (GTQ) according to the current tariff table published by the Superintendence of Tax Administration (SAT).
Packages from the European Union and other countries:
Guatemala does not apply direct trade agreements with the European Union. However, it maintains bilateral agreements with certain countries. In general, shipments from the EU, USA. USA or other origins are subject to the same customs procedures, with application of duties and taxes depending on the category of the product.
Payment of Tariffs: The recipient in Guatemala is responsible for paying the corresponding duties and taxes in local currency. Payment must be made directly at the post office or at the enabled customs office before the package is released.

Release Procedures: Once the fees are paid and the required documentation is presented, the Superintendence of Tax Administration (SAT) will release the package and it will be delivered to the recipient at the office corresponding.
Package Tracking: You can track your shipment at all times using the tracking number provided by the international carrier and, later, through Guatemala Post Office once it enters the country.
Possible Delays: Customs processes in Guatemala are usually stricter than in other countries. If the package requires additional documentation or contains restricted items, it may experience significant delays in delivery.

Items prohibited by Guatemalan legislation or international treaties cannot be sent. Among them: illegal drugs, explosives, flammable or toxic materials, weapons and ammunition (including replicas), pornographic materials, and fauna or flora protected without MAGA or CITES permits.
Yes. Every package entering Guatemala must accurately declare its contents and real value. The description must include product type, quantity, brand and model. Declaring an incorrect value may cause fines, withholdings or increased taxes.
If the package contains restricted items, Customs (SAT) will request additional permits or health documentation depending on the type of product. If the required documentation is not presented, the shipment may be detained or returned to the country of origin.
In addition to the shipping cost, in Guatemala VAT of 12% is applied on the CIF value plus, depending on the product, a tariff (DAI); Merchandise with a certificate of origin from CAFTA-DR (USA) or the Agreement with the EU may have a reduced tariff. Up to 1,000 USD CIF value, the shipment is processed with a simplified declaration. At MDE we prepare the documentation and the quote shows you the real cost before buying.

If your package is retained, the SAT will notify the recipient or the responsible courier. You must present the commercial invoice, identification document and any additional permits required. Once the process is completed and the taxes paid, the package will be released.
You can track your package using the tracking number provided by the international carrier. When the package arrives in Guatemala, you can continue tracking it on the official page of Correos de Guatemala (www.correos.gob.gt) or on the platform of the assigned courier.
An invoice or commercial receipt, declaration of content and value, and in some cases, health certificates or special permits are required depending on the type of merchandise. The sender and recipient data must be complete and verifiable.
Yes. Gifts may be shipped as long as they are declared as such and include a detailed description of the contents and their estimated value. Even if they are gifts, the SAT can apply taxes if the value exceeds the allowed limit.
