Yes, always. The General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE) checks declaration, value and tariff line, and knows market prices; valuation usually runs in US dollars. Declare the real purchase value: obvious undervaluation means retention and penalties that cost more than the tax. We prepare the declaration for you from your invoice.
Radio and telecom equipment (walkie-talkies, powerful routers, drones with transmitters) needs a TRC licence; medicines need Ministry of Health authorisation with prescription; Khmer antiquities are protected heritage. If the permit never arrives, or the item is outright prohibited, it gets seized. That is why it pays to ask us BEFORE buying any regulated product: we will tell you which paper it needs and how to get it.
Shipments up to US$50 declared value enter free of duty and tax. Above that: duty bands of 0%, 7%, 15% and 35% (consumer goods usually 15%) plus 10% VAT on CIF + duty. For normal purchases, just the invoice or receipt with the real value: we prepare the rest of the export paperwork and the declaration. Purchase invoice with the real value; prescription for medicines; TRC licence for radio-equipped devices.
Yes. Gifts are declared like any shipment, at real value: Cambodia has no special gift exemption, but the general US$50 de minimis applies, so a gift under that value arrives tax-free. Mark it "gift" and keep the receipt.
The official currency is the riel, but Cambodia's economy is highly dollarised and prices and customs valuations are often handled in US dollars.
US$50 of declared value per shipment: below it you pay no duty and no VAT. That is rare in Southeast Asia and very usable: for several small purchases, separate shipments under the threshold can beat one big box. Your MDE locker lets you decide shipment by shipment.
Only with a prior licence from the TRC telecom regulator: every radio-transmitting device needs one. Without it, the parcel is held by the GDCE. Get it before buying; if you already bought, write to us and we will guide you through the process.
Yes, no problem: what is protected are authentic Khmer antiquities and cultural goods, whose unlicensed trade is a crime. For replicas and modern crafts, keep the invoice proving it is not an original piece and it will travel friction-free.
Medicines: with a prescription in your name and personal-use quantities; controlled ones also need Cambodian Ministry of Health authorisation. Common supplements usually pass in personal quantities. For any category doubt, ask us before buying.
