Tariffs and Taxes: Packages with a declared value of less than 150 euros (the “de minimis” limit established by the EU) are exempt from import tariffs, but not from VAT.
All shipments from outside the European Union are subject to Greek VAT, which is 24% for most products. There are reduced rates of 13% for food and pharmaceutical products, and 6% for books or cultural items.
For shipments with a value greater than 150 euros, import tariffs will also apply, determined according to the TARIC tariff code and the value declared on the commercial invoice.
Packages coming from the European Union and other countries: Shipping from countries within the European Union (such as Spain, France or Germany) are not subject to tariffs or import taxes, since Greece is part of the European single market.
On the other hand, packages from non-EU countries (such as the United Kingdom, the United States, China or Switzerland) are subject to Greek VAT (24%) and, in some cases, to customs duties, depending on the type of product.
Greece does not apply the DR-CAFTA agreement, but is governed by the trade agreements of the European Union, which may reduce or eliminate tariffs for certain countries or specific sectors (for example, preferential agreements with Canada or Japan).
Payment of Tariffs: The recipient in Greece is responsible for paying taxes and customs duties before the package is released. This payment can be made directly to the international courier (DHL, UPS, FedEx, ACS, ELTA) or through the AADE digital portal (www.aade.gr).

Release Procedures: Once the duties are paid and the required documentation is submitted, the Greek Customs Authority (AADE) will authorize the release of the package. Subsequently, the shipment will be delivered to the recipient through ELTA (Greek postal service) or the corresponding international courier. has entered the Greek customs system.
Possible Delays: If the package requires additional documentation, health inspection or contains restricted items, customs procedures may cause delays in delivery. This occurs more frequently in non-EU shipments or during periods of high logistical activity (such as holidays or sales).

This includes illegal drugs, explosive or flammable materials, weapons and ammunition (including replicas), dangerous chemicals, cash, pornographic materials, counterfeit products, and animals or plants protected without permits from theΥπουργείο Περιβάλλοντος και Ενέργειας (Ministry of Environment and Energy) or CITES.
Yes. All shipments to Greece must include a detailed description of the contents, indicating the type of product, brand, quantity, model and actual value. Declaring an incorrect or lower value may result in fines, withholdings or sanctionsfrom the Ανεξάρτητη Αρχή Δημοσίων Εσόδων (AADE), which manages Greek customs.
If your package contains restricted items, customs authorities may request specific authorizations or certificates before releasing it. If the AADE or the courier notifies you that your package was detained, you must present the commercial invoice or proof of purchase, a declaration of contents and value, and, if applicable, the required permits. Once the documents have been validated and the taxes paid, the package will be released and delivered by ELTA or the corresponding international courier.
You can track your shipment with the tracking number provided by the international courier (DHL, UPS, FedEx, etc.) or through the tracking system of the Greek postal service ELTA. You can also do it from your control panel in MDE, where the status of the package is updated in real time.

Yes. Personal gifts may be sent as long as they are declared as a “gift” and include a description of the contents and their actual value. If the total value does not exceed 45 euros, they may be exempt from taxes. Gifts of higher value or those that come from outside the EU will be subject to VAT (24%) and, in some cases, customs duties.
Customs procedures are managed by the Ανεξάρτητη Αρχή Δημοσίων Εσόδων (AADE). The recipient must comply with current regulations, present the necessary documentation and pay the corresponding taxes. Once the dispatch is approved, the package will be released for delivery by the carrier or ELTA.
Yes, when the shipment comes from outside the European Union (for example the United States, China or the United Kingdom) and its value is equal to or less than €150. From July 1, 2026, Regulation (EU) 2026/382 replaces the former tariff exemption for low-value shipments with a fixed tariff of €3 for each type of product (tariff heading), not per package. It is a transitional measure until July 1, 2028. Your purchases within the EU destined for Greece do not pay this tariff.
