Ecommerce has completely changed the way parcel delivery was understood. Today, many logistics centers are working to meet a growing demand to bring products closer to the customer, saving both time and money.
But even so, there is still a barrier when it comes to, for example, getting certain products shipped from one continent to another, or even getting ecommerce stores to offer this possibility in the first place.
It was in that context that the idea behind MDE emerged in 2020: an app from which the entire process is managed and which, following the Airbnb model, proposed that parcels could have a space where they would be guests on demand.
This way, once registered on the platform, customers gain a postal address in Europe that allows them, despite living in another country, to receive and benefit from favorable purchasing conditions as if they were shopping from an address within the shared market.
«We mainly have two profiles that are increasingly demanding this service. On one hand, individuals who are collectors, resellers or buyers living outside the EU who need access to the European market and, on the other hand, companies located anywhere in the world that need a nearby logistics hub in Europe. With these solutions we save them thousands of euros,» the company explains, noting that parcels to Mexico have been the most common so far.
With exponential growth since the pandemic restrictions ended, this solution is key for transoceanic shipments.
Above all, in two specific services. First, the Buy for me option, with customers requesting that a product be purchased on their behalf and kept in custody until shipping and, stemming from this, what they call consolidation: that is, waiting to receive parcels arriving from different ecommerce stores or platforms and combining them so they can be sent in a single international order.
«This type of service is in high demand, for example, for purchases on platforms such as Amazon, eBay, Wallapop or Vinted that do not allow international or even inter-island shipping. Once we receive the parcel, we send a photo so customers can see it is the product they requested, and we arrange the shipment whenever the customer decides, working with the main international carriers, cutting costs and, above all, overcoming borders,» they comment.
What began at its logistics warehouse in Barcelona has since grown into a network spanning Europe, America and Asia, with warehouses across 10 countries (Spain, France, Italy, Germany, the UK, the Czech Republic, Turkey, the USA, Hong Kong and China), letting customers choose where their goods are kept and shipping worldwide.
