Sometimes we only know part of the legislation, and this prevents us from making better use of our rights.<\/p>\n<p class=\"lead\">In summary: <span class=\"alternative-font\">All books, documents and bibliographic material can be brought into the country with no limits and no taxes of any kind. All purchases worth less than 200 US dollars (and 20 kg in weight) can be brought into the country through a simple customs process (up to three times a year without paying taxes, and you can always choose to pay 60% of the value in taxes with no limit on the number of times).<\/span><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n<h2>The Online Purchasing system <strong>explained by Uruguayan Customs<\/strong><\/h2>\n<iframe title=\"R\u00e9gimen de compras web y env\u00edos arribados al Uruguay\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/x2j2C8IJjTE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n\n<\/div>\n<h4>Tax-free <strong>E-commerce <\/strong>purchases (with exemption)<\/h4>\nThe following packages are <span class=\"alternative-font\">exempt from taxes and Customs storage costs<\/span> provided they meet these requirements:\n<ul class=\"blue-bullet\">\n \t<li>Be received by a natural person <strong>of legal age up to 3 times per calendar year<\/strong>. (Beyond these three times, you can always receive packages under these conditions by paying 60% of the value).<\/li>\n \t<li>The total value of the purchase invoice does not exceed <strong>USD 200<\/strong> (or its equivalent in another currency at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bcu.gub.uy\/Estadisticas-e-Indicadores\/Paginas\/Cotizaciones.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">exchange rate of the Central Bank of Uruguay<\/a> for the day before entry into the country).<\/li>\n \t<li>Its gross weight does not exceed <strong>20 kg<\/strong>.<\/li>\n \t<li>They are not for commercial purposes.<\/li>\n \t<li>Payment for the corresponding goods must be made using an international <strong>credit card<\/strong>, debit card or electronic means of payment linked to an international card, <strong>whose holder matches the buyer and the recipient of the parcel.<\/strong><\/li>\n \t<li>They do not contain products subject to the Specific Internal Tax (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dgi.gub.uy\/wdgi\/page?2,empresas,IMESI-Normativa,O,es,0,\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IMESI<\/a>): tobacco, alcohol\/beverages, perfumes\/cosmetics<\/li>\n \t<li>Goods that do not fall under those classified as prohibited by the regulations, or that require non-automatic licenses as provided for by the regulations.<\/li>\n \t<li><strong>We recommend that books, CDs and DVDs (excluding games) be purchased separately from other types of items, because in these cases they are completely <a href=\"http:\/\/www.impo.com.uy\/bases\/leyes-originales\/15913-1987\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">exempt from any kind of duty<\/a><\/strong> and you avoid using one of the three times per year that this legislation can be applied (since they have no frequency limit). It applies to any radio-electric equipment, including:\n<ul class=\"blue-bullet\">\n \t<li>Cell phones<\/li>\n \t<li>Cordless phones<\/li>\n \t<li>Baby monitors (baby calls)<\/li>\n \t<li>Wireless remote controls (not optical)<\/li>\n \t<li>Wireless cameras<\/li>\n \t<li>Wireless remote controls<\/li>\n \t<li>Devices with \"bluetooth\"<\/li>\n \t<li>Devices with Wi-Fi<\/li>\n \t<li>Equipment with remote control, including \"drones\"<\/li>\n \t<li>Wireless microphones<\/li>\n \t<li>Wireless speakers<\/li>\n \t<li>Watches with Wi-Fi and\/or \"bluetooth\"<\/li>\n \t<li>Satellite Terminals<\/li>\n \t<li>Wi-Fi Repeaters<\/li>\n \t<li>Wireless routers<\/li>\n \t<li>Wireless doorbells<\/li>\n \t<li>Radiocommunication transmitters<\/li>\n \t<li>Antennas, cellular base stations, radio-alarm base stations, parts of radiocommunication equipment, receivers, transceiver equipment, wireless network cards, transmitter equipment.<\/li>\n \t<li>And all equipment that emits radio signals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nAnd <strong>it does not require the intervention of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ursec.gub.uy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">URSEC<\/a><\/strong> in the case of importing devices or items that are not, or do not contain, radiocommunication transmitters or transceivers, such as:\n<ul class=\"blue-bullet\">\n \t<li>Car radios (without Wi-Fi or Bluetooth)<\/li>\n \t<li>Optical remote controls (for televisions, etc.)<\/li>\n \t<li>Watches with GPS (without Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, and without a cellular or satellite terminal)<\/li>\n \t<li>Antennas (understood as the physical material only and without any electronic equipment)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nThe <strong>procedures to be carried out<\/strong> are:\n<ul class=\"blue-bullet\">\n \t<li>Check whether the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gub.uy\/unidad-reguladora-servicios-comunicaciones\/datos-y-estadisticas\/datos\/listado-de-equipos-homologados\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">equipment is <strong>approved (homologated)<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n \t<li>If it is not approved, then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gub.uy\/tramites\/certificado-homologacion-equipamiento-radioelectrico\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">apply for its <strong>approval (homologation)<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n \t<li><a href=\"http:\/\/vuce.gub.uy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Manual-URSE-persona-fisica-c_flujo-v3.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Register<\/a> and <strong>process its Importation<\/strong> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/portal.vuce.gub.uy\/VUCE\/servlet\/loginvuce\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">VUCE<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nThe import Certification procedure for natural persons costs $ 160 (one hundred and sixty Uruguayan pesos), which is paid online.\n\nThe Approval (Homologation) procedure costs $ 539 (five hundred and thirty-nine Uruguayan pesos), which is also paid online.\n\n<strong>Things to keep in mind<\/strong>\n<ul>\n \t<li>Remember that the certificate must be processed before the purchase arrives in Montevideo.<\/li>\n \t<li>We recommend that, before making the purchase, you check that the device is <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ursec.gub.uy\/inicio\/informacion-tecnica\/telecomunicaciones\/inicio-tramites-y-servicios-homologacion\/equipos-homologados\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">approved (homologated)<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n \t<li>The certificates issued must be accompanied by the purchase invoice, containing the last 4 digits of the card used to make the payment.<\/li>\n \t<li>You should not request shipment from Spain until you have all the documentation for proper entry into the country.<\/li>\n \t<li>For more information, you can contact our advisors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.midireccioneuropea.com\/contacto\/\">right here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n&nbsp;\n\n&nbsp;\n\n&nbsp;","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Know your rights when importing online purchases into Uruguay: tax-free book limits, the USD 200 duty-free rule and how to clear electronics with MDE.","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":368,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-5320","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-sin-categorizar","category-1","description-off"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v26.1 (Yoast SEO v27.0) -
